Is there anyway to keep my wireless mouse from freezing my computer on startup?
When I start up my computer, if I have my mouse plugged into a USB port the computer will crash before the OS boots. If I plug the mouse in after the OS has booted it works fine, and from what I can tell my computer crashes before it goes into the boot order, so changing the BIOS doesn't help.
The mouse is a Microsoft Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse 6000 and I have the most recent drivers I could locate.
And my computer is:
AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 4600+
Vista Home Premium
2.00 GB Ram
Radeon x1900 GT
Thanks.
I have personally seen enough quirky behavior from microsoft mouses (sic) that I refuse to buy them anymore.
Logitech is the way to go. I have never had any of the trouble with them.
Also, could be a quirk of the BIOS. I have 3 Thinkpads that will not boot up if a USB device is plugged in. 3 different models. 4 other models boot fine no matter what is plugged into the usb ports.
Does this mouse work on another computer?
Update: Think about it. How much do you think ms spends on mouse R&D.

Apple Magic Mouse Reviews
It's clearly an improved means of interaction with your notebook computer and we may use the word milestone to describe the Apple Magic Mouse in a word. And, it simply won't get more improved any more; the planet's first ever multi-touch mouse now reacts to gestures.
It seems like Apple has used a fantastic option regarding release of the Magic Mouse to be a standard equipment with all the iMac. It has given alternative Bluetooth-allowed Mac gadgets a facelift (or mutated them to tremendous-devices) allowing people go full hog on multi-touch makeovers. The initial in this type, it's much lustrous tool showing off a smooth top-shell, and an attractive piece of engineering.
beginners of Mac clients might uncover the Apple Magic Mouse a bit troublesome for use considering that whole mouse simulates a single button for that multi-touch feature covering the whole top. It takes time finding utilised fot it; however, when you get utilized to it, the remaining is nothing extra when compared with a cakewalk. Scrolling the mouse pointer (in any way) calls for only a finger being moved over the top of the mouse and laptop people shall get pleasure in it. For swiping throughout files, a couple of fingers will be needed. The predictive chip inside has turned the function a whole bunch easier.
The standard optical tracking has been replaced by laser monitoring that's further compared to some situations sensitive and reacts in the same way over any provided surface. Sure that brands this one-piece manufacturing a lot extra fine when compared with alternative common mice, but it's enough to take care of the workstation wars.
What Features Make the Magic Mouse Better Compared to The rest?
But, the million dollar query that's appearing in the minds of the critics is - whether it is perfect to score extended term when compared rival optical mice?
Well, the result made out to be a big yes! And, this is primarily due to its slightly modified ergonomics. Not like others,it is low and aerodynamic, that keeps clear from the contour of your palm. It never make one feel the mouse to be a part of the hand. further, it goes to the inbuilt Bluetooth that frees you from the pain of using slow and untidy dongles (and certainly saves you from the extra expense).
Additional improvement included in Apple Magic mouse is the presence of the a couple of plastic bars beneath; these minimize contact with the surface the mouse is touching but affects monitoring; it's a thing the mouse is not a control at. And a clear delineation between the right button and the left button would have been a step nearer user-friendliness. However, these will be some thing a user shall get applied to in no time.
Apple introduced touch sensitive scrolling with all the Magic mouse and if anything else, it's fluid and natural feeling. Any amount of fingers wherever on the mouse surface is sufficient to trigger the feature. The two mode operation is useful, but changing the modes requires reaching the internal settings. Perhaps Apple should believe about devising a touch-response in this aspect as well and function somewhat increased on retaining the aesthetic appeals for longer. It's painful to see a brand new product giving up the beautiful finish so fast. Otherwise, it is a excellent development from their last product, the Mighty Mouse.
