All About Playstation 3

Fasten your seatbelt and get set for the ultimate entertainment explosion!

Playstation-3 is a gaming experience that is beyond anything known today. It is a computer entertainment system that unleashes a brilliant, high-definition entertainment experience which is incomparable. It delivers the next generation of interactive entertainment.

Playstation-3 is the third home video game console produced by Sony Computer Entertainment. A major feature, that sets it apart from its predecessors, is its unified online gaming service, the PlayStation Network. Other main features of the console include its huge multimedia capabilities, connectivity with the playstation portable and its use of a next generation optical media, blu-ray disc, as its primary storage medium.

There are models of four types that are usually referred to by the size of their included hard disc drive; 20, 40, 60 and 80 gigabyte models. All retail packages include one or two six axis controllers, a video/stereo audio, a power cable, a USB cable, output cable, and an ethernet cable(20, 60 and 80GB only).

Numerous accessories for the console have been developed for the system, including the wireless six axis controller, the BD remote, the playstation eye camera and the upcoming play TV DVB-T tuner/digital video recorder. The system has bluetooth 2.0, gigabit ethernet, USB 20 and HDMI 1.3a built-in on all models. Wi-Fi networking is also built-in on the 40, 60 and 80GB models while a flashcard reader (which is compatible with memory stick, SD/MMC and compact flash/micro drive media) is built-in on 60 and 80GB models.

The playstation-3 version of the `Xross Media Bar` includes nine categories of options. These include users, settings, photo, music, video, game, network, playstation network and friends. Also it includes the ability to store various master and secondary user profiles, manage and explore photos with or without a musical slide-show, play music and copy audio CD tracks to an attached storage device, play movies and video files from the hard-disk drive, an optional USB mass storage or flashcard, or an optical disc (blu-ray disc or DVD-video), compatibility for a USB keyboard and mouse and a full web browser supporting in/compatible file download function.

The friends menu allows mail with emoticon and attached picture features and video chat which requires an optional playstation eye or eye toy webcam. The network menu allows online shopping through the playstation store.

The 80GB playstation-3 provides ample hard drive storage space for games and other entertainment content from the game network. The free membership in playstation network allows you to play free games online, allows downloading of special content and be in touch with your friends. The inbuilt Wi-Fi allows for flawless connection with your network. It includes hard drive for all photos, music and personal videos.

The six axis wireless controller gives more precision and freedom during game play. The picture quality is pristine with the capability of full high-definition resolution at 1080p. The built-in blu-ray disc drive provides for high-definition games and entertainment.

Sony has also announced the dualshock3, a controller with the same design and function as the six axes, but with vibration capability included. It was released in Japan in november 2007, while a spring 2008 release date has been scheduled for Europe and North America.

The playstation-3, at first, received generally unfavorable reviews like late, expensive and incompatible, but after a series of price drops and the release of several quality titles, the system has begun to garner better reviews. Their motor sport game is wildly popular and their list of games is getting larger and longer.

With its cutting-edge technology, the high-end Sony playstation-3`s larger hard drive and ability to play playstation-2 games makes it a worthwhile alternative to cheaper models.

The Very Long History of Emoticons
I used to be anti-emoticon. For years, I thought of smiley faces as the mark of an immature writer—the kind who punctuates a sentence with seven exclamation points. Then one day, after years of reading them, I was composing a sentence I wanted to make very sure the reader knew was a joke—and so I did it. Slowly, those little guys crept into my emails. I started becoming enamored of the more ...

How old was your toddler when they started using the computer?

- mine is 3, he can mouse around, play games that involve the mouse, can't use the keyboard.
- did yours put his/her face too close to the screen?
- did he/she have tantrums when you would pull them away from it?

My son was 3. They had computer classes at his preschool. I thought it would be great to have him learn so young. What a mistake! He's 13 now and obsessed with the computer and video games. SO with my daughter (almost 5) we are making her wait for the game part until she's older. She can do some very basic things and I am teaching her how to send emails (b/c her dad is gone alot and that way she can communicate with him) but I want her to actually do things that require some thought, creativity and actually moving around. Computers are great and have their time and place but I think kids now are using them WAY too much.

Diagnostic Computer Software And Programs

Most people do not realize that they have a problem with the operating system for a personal computer until they get an error message when the computer is turned on one day. Before the computer system reaches this stage, the computer user might notice that the system has slowed considerably over a period of weeks and that the keyboard or other input devices work incorrectly and gibberish is written across the computer screen.

The error message could come in a numeric form that lists an error code or it could come with a blue screen showing on the computer monitor that alerts the user to a fatal operating error that will prevent the computer operating system from loading. A computer user might try to reboot the operating system several times with the same result. Then they might consider using a recovery disk that contains diagnostic software on it that could identify the source of the problem.

Some computer operating systems require users to access diagnostics software by repetitively hitting the F8 key on the computer keyboard. This procedure will take the operating system into a safe mode that will allow the operator to perform several diagnostics on the computer system itself. Some programs might now operate normally while in safe mode, but if the errors are found and repaired, the computer system should load normally on the next restart.

Using this type of diagnostic computer software will require an understanding of error codes and settings by which the computer operates. The user manual will have a complete listing of error codes and the list will also explain what they mean. While the computer is operating in safe mode, the operating system will offer the computer operator several choices on the computer screen that will help repair the errors that are on the hard drive of the computer.

Changes should be made sparingly to the computer while it is operating in safe mode. Any numerical changes that occur to the hard drive will directly effect the way the computer system will respond when it is restarted. Some changes will make the computer inoperable and all information on the system could be corrupted and will be unusable. Every computer user should activate the system restore option under the system icon of the control panel when they purchase the computer.

The system restore selection will allow the diagnostic software to restore the system to an earlier time, and is especially helpful when the system stops working after new software or hardware has been installed. The computer systems restore diagnostics software program is an important system tool that many users forget to start. The restore settings will make recovery of materials easier if the system stops responding due to infection by computer viruses or corrupted software.

If the diagnostics software fails to repair the system, then the user is faced with reinstalling the operating system from operating disks that are provided with each new computer system. A good rule of thumb to follow is to back up information on a daily, weekly or monthly basis to ensure that no data is lost. There are many software programs for data recovery on the market to help recover data when the operating system diagnostics programs fail to solve the problem.

What does the ¬ symbol mean on a computer keyboard?

How to Read and Play Guitar Tabs

Guitar tabs are easy to read when you understand all of the different symbols and 'markers' used to represent what to play and how to play it. In fact, it's not usually the 'notes' that trip people up when they try to read guitar tabs. It's all of the other dots, dashes and slashes that are confusing!

So, let's talk about the most important part first - how to read which notes to play and where - because it is also the easiest.

When you look at a song in tabbed notation, what you are looking at is an 'aerial' view of the fretboard. In other words, imagine that you have your guitar laid flat in your lap and you're looking down at the fretboard.

Your sixth (lowest in pitch) string will be closest to you, right? Now, imagine that you pick up your guitar and hold it out in front of you. Your sixth string is closest to the floor, while your first string is closest to the ceiling.

This is what you're looking at with tabs. There are 6 lines in a 'measure' of tab, one for each string of the guitar. The top line is your 1st string (high E) and the bottom line is your 6th string (low E).

The next thing you'll notice is that these 'strings' will have numbers on them. For example, you might see a '0' on the 3rd string, followed by a 2, and then a 3 on the 1st string.

What these numbers represent is the fret position of the note you need to play on that string.

From the example above, you would play an 'open G' by picking the 3rd string, then play an 'A' by picking the 3rd string again while holding your finger on the second fret. Finally, you would play another 'G' by placing your finger on the 3rd fret of the first string. Make sense?

Although you'll see 'fret-like' dividers on guitar tab, these divisions do not represent frets. They're more like the bars that divide measures. If a series of note or chords is meant to be played sequentially, they will be spaced apart from one another on the tab.

Also, if you are to play a chord, an interval or anything involving multiple notes that sound simultaneously, these will be stacked vertically in the notation.

Now, let's move onto the other signs and symbols you'll come across in tabs. The easiest thing here is to just give you a reference 'table':

x = Mute. This is seen most often in tabs for songs where a lot of palm-muting is used on chords to create a percussive sound.

h = hammer-on. Let's say you're supposed to perform a 'hammer-on' from open 'E' up to G on the first string. This will be written on the top line of the tab as “0h3”.

p= pull-off. Let's say that your hammer-on was follow by a pull from G back to E. It will be written, again, on the top line of the tab as “3p0”

b = bend. When you see a 'b' between two notes - e.g., 7b9, it means that you should bend the first note up until it reaches the same pitch as the second note indicated by the tab.

/ = When you see a forward slash connecting a series of notes, this indicates that you should slide from the first set of notes up to the second.

= When you see a backslash connection a series of notes, it indicates that you should slide down from the first set of notes to the second.

The above represents the most frequently used symbols in tab, but is not all-inclusive. Other symbols for things like “gliss” and arpeggio use special characters which can't be accurately represented here as they aren't included in the character set of a standard computer keyboard.

Hopefully, though, this quick lesson has given you just enough to get started using tab to learn most of your favorite songs!
