15.6" or 17" Laptop for a student?

I'm starting Uni next year and am planning to buy a laptop. Many people I know have Dells, which seem to work well (none of them have had the slightest problem), so that's boosted my confidence in that brand.
I was wondering if it was a good idea for a larger 17" screen (Dell Studio 17), which would be better for watching films etc, and the keyboard layout is nice. Or I could just go for a 15.6" screen (Dell Inspiron 15/Studio 15), which would be more portable.

I've had no experience with Laptops in the past, so any thoughts/opinions on the matter would be greatly appreciated :)

EDIT: Even though a faster processor/larger RAM is appealing, I have to say I probably wouldn't use many ram-hogging applications. I might take the laptop into Uni every day, I might not, it's hard to say until September.

for students small, light weight, portable, easy to carry laptop is better. 17" laptop is bulky and heavy. so you should go for 15" or smaller screen size laptop.

dell inspiron and studio both r good laptop. if you just need to run light applications which doesn't required much graphics memory like email, internet, office, movies, musics etc... then inspiron 15 will be good for you.
if you want to run some multimedia applications like games, image/video editing software also on it then better go for studio 15.

My computer has a virus...It wont turn on anymore =[ ?

Okay. My computer has been down for about 2 months now. Its a laptop, a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop. I knew it had a virus, but I used two anti-virus software programs and I know now that when more than one virus protector is on your computer, it increases the risk for a virus attack. But the question I mainly wanted to ask was how much would it really cost to fix a laptop that is completely shut down from a virus attack? Also where should I go? I was thinking Geeksquad but less expensive solutions would suffice in my situation. Thanks a bunch!!! =]
