Tiny Micro Bikini

First up, we'll run through a short history of the bikini (no sniggering at the back, please) and see how we arrive at the micro bikini.

The two-piece swimsuit we know today as the bikini has only been marketed and sold as such for 60 years. But archaeologists have discovered Minoan wall paintings from 1600 B.C. and Roman mosaics from 300 A.D. that show the bikini, so the ancients were livin' it up! Still, it is the debut of the modern bikini in 1946 and its later modifications that truly define the swimsuit.

The bikini was invented and launched by two French designers: Jacques Heim and Louis Reard. Heim was a swimsuit designer who had created a two-piece suit to be sold in his beach shop in Cannes. He marketed the swimsuit as the "atome," (named for its small size and meant to be compared with the atom, the smallest particle of matter known). No doubt, it was an outrageously tiny swimsuit.

The same year, Reard was creating his own similar, two-piece swimsuit. He named and marketed his swimsuit as the bikini, claiming that it was "smaller than the smallest bathing suit in the world". Reard christened his swimsuit the bikini in honor of experimental atomic bombs being detonated in the South Pacific, near the Bikini Reef.

So Reard's name stuck, though by today's standards, the bikinis of the 1940s and '50s were positively modest in their coverage. Bottoms were cut above the navel, and tops fully covered the breasts.

Getting smaller by the year

The bikini went through several changes as time passed. Designers experimented with many varieties for the swimsuit, including a bikini top with attached propellers (!), a suit made entirely of red hair, and even a version made of porcupine quills.

As early as the 1950s, the bikini was already so small that it could be packed into a matchbook, but even more drastic shrinkage lay in store. In the 1970s, the sexual revolution in the United States caused designers to make the bikini even more revealing.

So we had string bikinis, which exposed the navel by fitting the bottoms on the hips. The top, too, provided only bra-style coverage. In the 1980s, the popular thong bikini arrived on the scene. Designers claimed the thong bikini originated from the clothing of Amazonian tribal groups in Brazil. As we know, the thong bikini leaves the bottom virtually uncovered and the back of the suit disappears into the buttocks.

Micro bikinis

In the 1990s and 2000s, designers have continued to revamp the bikini and innovated new styles. While the thong and string bikinis retain their popularity, the micro bikini has recently been added to the growing selection.

Essentially, micro bikinis are bikinis combining a micro bikini top and a thong bikini bottom. Needless to add, it is scantier and more revealing than traditional bikinis and hence its name.

Buying micro bikinis

· A word of warning: you need to be careful that you don't opt for a string bikini when you mean to buy a micro bikini. There are enough illustrated examples online to show you the difference.

· Numerous sites offer essential advice like how to shave your bikini line (hairy exposures will NOT do). Make sure your pubic area in particular is well shorn.

· Choose the fabric well. Test your skin for itches and allergic rashes, particularly since you will be spending a lot of time in the sun wearing your bikini

· Have plenty of sunscreen handy. You need to use liberal doses all over your body since you obviously will not have much on in terms of protection from the sun's rays!

Happy bathing!

Customer Review:

Setup was easy and the mic work as intended. Tried it with Rock Band Beatles Edition on the PS3 and the lag was minimal... completely usable for singing.

The mic itself feels solid and well-made.

The special USB dongle lets this mic work with all major consoles, which is great.

Wii Wireless Microphone for Beatles Rock Band

Does this microphone work for Beatles Rock Band? Anyone purchase it yet? I just bought two and they arrived today but nowhere on the packages does it say Wii Beatles Rock Band but the only game it says it doesn't support is Singstar. I don't want to open the packaging if this isn't going to work with the Wii Beatles Rock Band. And can someone suggest what extra microphones work with Wii Beatles Rock Band...thanks.

Microphone works GREAT with Guitar Hero on PS3!

We use this microphone for Guitar Hero on the Playstation 3. It works great, has a Long Range and is very clear. The wireless feature is fantastic. We previously had a corded version and I felt very tied to the Playstation, was worried about tripping over it. Now I can be a rock star without the fear of the cord. Definitely a great gift idea for Guitar Hero and Rock Band fands.

Works great with Rock Band!

One thing that happens constantly at my place is Rock Band parties. One thing that hampers these fun parties are cords. I can't stand them and what inadvertently happens is a web or cords that (sometimes drunk) people have to manuever around. It's not exactly the best experience at times. When I heard that Logitech was bringing a cordless mic to the party, I got excited for a couple reasons. Of course there's the aforementioned cord issue but also that Logitech makes some great (albeit usually expensive) products. The Wireless Microphone fits right in that same area.

Setup is a breeze. The package comes with two main pieces, the microphone and the holder/USB receiver. Plugging the USB receiver into the Xbox 360 provides you with the wireless capabilities but also doubles as a place to hold your microphone when not being used. It takes AA batteries which is good and bad. I really enjoy products that have a built in rechargable battery, but this also allows quick and easy replacement if you're in the middle of a party and don't have time to recharge.

The microphone works very well. It's more like a full-sized microphone that I'm used to at Karaoke bars and has a nice, heavy heft to it. It picks up your voice a lot better than the mics that come with either Rock Band or Guitar Hero and the sound quality it picks up is also much clearer. I even used it on my PC and recorded some voice tracks to test the quality and it works wonderfully. Ultimately, you get what you pay for and the Logitech microphone excels at both a more maneuverable option and as a great quality microphone. Very much recommended.

Standby power

Consequences

The wasted standby power (vampire energy loss) of individual household electronic devices is typically very small, but the sum of all such devices within the household becomes significant. Standby power makes up a portion of homes' miscellaneous electric load, which also includes small appliances, security systems, and other small power draws.

Standby power can be as high as 10 to 15 watts per device, and occasionally more. A 2005 study estimates the number of standby appliances in the EU at 3.7 billion. Although the power needed for functions like displays, indicators, and remote control functions is relatively small, the fact that the devices are continuously plugged in, and the number of such devices in the average household means that the energy usage can reach up to 22 percent of all appliance consumption, and around 10 percent of total residential consumption.

Alan Meier, a staff scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) in Berkeley, noted that many household appliances are never fully switched off, but spend most of the time in a standby mode. His 1998 study estimated that standby power consumption accounted for approximately 5% of total residential electricity consumption in America, dding up to more than $3 billion in annual energy costs. According to America's Department of Energy, national residential electricity consumption in 2004 was 1.29 billion megawatt hours (MWh)5% of which is 64m MWh. The wasted energy, in other words, is equivalent to the output of 18 typical power stations. His 2000 study showed that standby power accounted for around 10% of household power-consumption.

The British Government's 2006 Energy Review found that standby modes on electronic devices account for 8% of all British domestic power consumption. A similar study in France in 2000 found that standby power accounted for 7% of total residential consumption. Further studies have since come to similar conclusions in other developed countries, including the Netherlands, Australia and Japan. Some estimates put the proportion of consumption due to standby power as high as 13%.

From the US department of Energy:

"Many appliances continue to draw a small amount of power when they are switched off. These "phantom" loads occur in most appliances that use electricity, such as VCRs, televisions, stereos, computers, and kitchen appliances. This can be avoided by unplugging the appliance or using a power strip and using the switch on the power strip to cut all power to the appliance."

Heat generated

A careful analysis of the energy cost would also account for the effects of standby power on heating and cooling. Almost all of the standby power is converted into heat. During warm periods, additional energy may be used to remove the extra heat from standby power. In warm months, this energy, as well as any other heat produced by devices, would increase air conditioning costs. During cool periods, the heat generated by devices on standby may slightly reduce the need to heat a space by other methods. The net effect on energy efficiency however depends on the climate and heating and cooling methods used, if any.

Fire risks

The subject of fire risk due to leaving a device in standby mode is a popular debate. There are reported cases where televisions have caught on fire in stand-by mode.

The contributing factors for such fires include:

Humid environments

Lightning storms

Age of the appliance

Modern televisions use only a small fraction of the power in standby mode (typically less than 10W). A modern HD LCD television may use only 1W or less when in standby mode (compared to 80-125W during standard operation).

Policy

For more details on this topic, see One Watt Initiative.

In July 2001, U.S. President George W. Bush signed an Executive Order directing federal agencies to "purchase products that use no more than one watt in their standby power consuming mode".

In July 2006, the British Government announced it would outlaw televisions and video players that exceed the maximum standby-mode power consumption standard (1 watt).

In July 2007, California's 2005 appliance standards came into effect, limiting external power supply standby power to 0.5 watts.

In July 2008, the European Union regulatory committee accepted a proposal to reduce standby power consumption to either 1 or 2 watts by 2010. It also warrants a further reduction to 0.5 or 1 watt by 2012.

Estimating total

An estimate of how much standby power is used can be made using tables of standby power used by typical devices. Measurement of the overall standby power can be made by observing rate of electricity use when all devices are turned off, or when standard loads are in use.

Identifying devices

An appliance watt meter can be used to find out how much energy is used by standby power. Watt meters can often be borrowed from the local power authorities or a local public library. Standby power consumption can oftentimes be indicated qualitatively, if after a several hours of non-operation a device is still warm to touch (usually surface near to the power plug). Such elevated surface temperature will depend on the standby power consumption and the device surface, so small enough standby consumptions cannot be detected in this way.

Devices and functions that can consume standby power

Power supplies, transformers and inefficient electronic devices.

VCRs, DVD players and some audio systems.

TVs and Set-top boxes

Microwave ovens

Computers, digital monitors and printers

Air conditioning systems with remote control.

Devices with "Instant on" functions, with remote control receivers, or waiting for the user to interact.

Devices with a stand-by light or clock.

Power adapters (such as wall warts), whether they are powering a device or not.

Some home video game consoles (e.g. Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360 & Sony PlayStation 3)

Standby Indicator

DC Power adaptor

Reducing consumption

There are a few simple methods to reduce standby power. The easiest way to do that is to simply unplug the unused devices. To switch off several devices that are often used together such as a PC, a monitor and a printer it is advisable to use a switchable power bar or surge protector with multiple sockets. Another alternative is to consider buying energy saving devices or devices that offer a real off switch. Identifying a real off switch can be difficult though, as even devices with a hardware off switch, e.g. TVs, often still do have standby consumption if not taken fully off energy supply. Replacing battery powered devices, such as cordless phones or rechargeable razors with corded alternatives not only cuts down on the standby power required to charge the battery, but also reduces energy lost in battery charging and discharging inefficiencies. It should be noted that many devices use standby power to retain configuration settings and unplugging them will cause these settings to be lost either immediately or shortly after.

A switchable multiple socket or power bar

Switching devices on or off can be automated. Timers can be used to turn off standby power to devices that are unused on a regular schedule. Switches can turn the power off when the connected device goes into standby (e.g. Standby Plug), or that turn on/off other outlets when a device is turned on or off are also available (e.g. USB Eco Powerstrip, Mini Power Minder, SmartStrip, IntelliPanel). Switches can turn on/off based on activity sensors (e.g., Wattstopper). Home automation sensors, switches and controllers can be used to handle more complex sensing and switching. However, many of these devices in their turn require standby power (for instance, the SmartStrip uses 0.28 watts in standby ; the Standby Plug uses 0.4 watts ), as well as requiring energy and resources to make and recycle the device, so care should be taken to assure reduction in power use.

Some devices that use standby power may not turn on when power is removed and then reapplied by means of an external switch. A capacitor connected in parallel with the power switch can act as a momentary contact switch to turn on such devices when power is applied.

Some computers allow reducing of standby power by turning off components that use power when in standby mode. For instance, disabling Wake-on-LAN, wake on modem, wake on keyboard or USB may reduce power when in standby. It may be possible to disable such features that you do not use in the computer's BIOS setup.

Terms and Usage History

Phantom Load

The earliest known use of the term Phantom load was in "It's Gotta Be Spring" by Brian Green (N6HWY) on page 25 of Home Power Magazine #11, the June/July 1989 issue.

Can you flush yeast down a toilet at a little used house to help keep the septic tank in good working order.?

Years ago, this used to be something people who lived in the country did for their septic tanks, believing the fermentation helped keep everything in good working order. I wonder if this method is still recommened by plumbers today and if so, how many packets....1? 2? 3?

isn't there an actual product for that?
i think it's called RID-X. for septic tanks.

Working in the car insurance industry is a rewarding career. That's because it provides you with an atmosphere where you can constantly learn, you can pick up business skills, and improve your interpersonal skills by interacting with colleagues and clients. But how much does it pay? How much money can you make working as a car insurance broker?

If you are entering into a career as a car insurance broker without any experience, you shouldn't expect to make very much. However, it will at least be a decent income. You could expect to make a yearly salary of $25,000 to $35,000. That's not bad for a job with no experience.

However, with just a year of experience under your belt, as long as you are good at what you do, the sky's the limit as to what you could earn. At this point, you could seek a salary well into the forty thousands, and possibly higher. However, if you are willing to work on a strictly commission basis, they sky's the limit.

If you work on commission as a car insurance broker, you would get paid a percentage of all the new sales that you make. Some insurance brokerages will even give you a percentage of all renewals for many years after, although it would be a smaller percentage. The good part about working on commission as that you could make a lot of money. I personally know insurance brokers that make well over $100,000 per year. That bad part about working on commission is that your income is not guaranteed. If your sales are low, you get paid less. If your market dries up, your income falls.

Whichever path you take, salary or commission, you could make very good money working a career as a car insurance broker.

Even if you're a new insurance broker and not making much, there are other ways to supplement your income. You could make good money with cell phones affiliate marketing, for example. If that doesn't suit you, you could try winning the lottery - Then you wouldn't even have to work!

Roll Down Hurricane Shutters Need Bi-Yearly Maintenance

Sometimes we forget that although we may live in the ultimate climate, the southeastern states are situated in an area where hurricanes and tropical storms are more likely to approach versus the northern states. If you are living in a location that is subject to violent hurricanes and would like to take the necessary precautions to safeguard your home from the high winds and pounding rain from a tropical storm, then Bahama shutters may be the choice for you, even giving you the financial savings at the end of the year. Many people will use them for protection against winds of excess of 75 miles per hour, and serve as the only line of defense from the violent wind and rain from a storm. It is extremely important to maintain the finish to preserve the integrity and visual appearance. It is important to continue bi-yearly maintenance on your Bahama shutters. A few steps which can be completed to make sure your Bahama shutters are ready for hurricane season are: 1) Open and close the shutters at least once every 6 months, agitating all moving parts. 2) Apply silicone or other light lubricant like L.C. Wax from Protexall, to all moving parts, hinges and hinge pins. 3) Remove excessive dirt, salt, debris or any items which can cause build up and not allow your Bahama hurricane shutters to function properly. Contacting a reputable hurricane shutter company during the off-season is suggested to make sure all your equipment is properly functioning. Never force your Bahama shutters closed as it could cause more damage and leave it to the experts to keep your hurricane shutters working correctly.

Are Wireless keyboards compatible with the Wii?

Recently i have bought a Wii and got the Internet Browser and was hoping i could use my Micro Innovations Wireless Keyboard and Mouse with it because its uses a USB Adapter any ideas if it is compatible yet? I was wondering if i have go change something to use it? I have also read that Logitech has one that is but don't want to go out and buy a new one.

... I have no idea what "runescape player" is talking about with his "no" answer... that's blatantly untrue.

The Wii is compatible with all standard USB keyboards... wireless or wired doesn't matter. Now your mouse won't work with it, but the keyboard will. I use a logitech wireless keyboard and mouse set on my wii... the keyboard works great but the mouse doesn't do anything.

Are you a micro-multinationalist?

When a common man hears the world "multi-national", the image that forms in his mind is of a huge, swanky office, full of a zillion employees, working together to take charge of the market prospects all over the world. The only problem being, that the internet has changed the definition of the "multi-national" to something else.

Since the bursting of the Social Media bubble, many young, innovative and enthusiastic entrepreneurs have found yet another way to develop, expand and grow their businesses . Ways in which they would reach to the market faster and in the most cost-effective manner. The internet today is helping and allowing small companies to act like big ones.

Commonly known as "micro-multinationals", these companies are a small organization, with employees all over the world, connected with the most prevalent of communication strategies of the 21st Century – the social media. These companies involve social websites including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, to hire professionals all over the world, hence creating a global multinational in the true sense of the word.

In the past, being a multinational was the one common dream shared by thousands of small sized ventures. The benefits of addressing the global market and catering to their needs were something that only the Fortune 500 companies could enjoy. This was due to the simple reason that only these large organizations had the infrastructure to handle employees and operations all over the world. At the time, very few companies could raise the capital or develop the international expertise required to maneuver and establish businesses in foreign countries.

But since the advent of the internet and the popularization of the social media, the scenario has changed to an unimaginable level. The world has become a more globalised place. The social media has given the smaller organizations to handle an entire workforce, situated in all corners of the world, thus giving birth to the term, "Micro - multinational". The amount of business activities has changed drastically, since the geographic boundaries have begun to fade away, and have created a paradigm shift in the way companies can operate globally, quickly erasing the conventional "local first, global later" mentality. The social media has eliminated all boundaries to create and develop business overseas for any possible industry vertical. Making it legally possible, International business lawyers have also given a thumbs-up to aspiring micro multinational organizations, hence making the entire phenomenon viable.

An extremely successful example of a six people micro multinational is "Slideshare", which is the presentation form of YouTube. The service allows non-profit and profit organizations to upload presentations in various formats to share publically, which gives social media a whole new level of information. The organization has employees all over the world to handle the various operations in the world's largest community for sharing.

The trend of micro – multinationalism has taken over the world in a way that no one could ever imagine. Entrepreneurs could not have created such companies if they would have been unable to leverage global talent.
